New College Durham offers its staff a choice in how they receive their remuneration package other than the usual pay and pension benefits.
The College operates a voluntary scheme called ‘newchoices’, where staff can opt for one or more benefits available, which include purchasing additional annual leave, discounted retail vouchers, childcare vouchers and competitive travel insurance, plus many more.
Through newchoices staff can select the benefits that are relevant to their lifestyle and benefit from New College Durham’s buying power. In addition, some of the benefits available are operated via salary sacrifice, subject to HMRC approval. This means that an amount is deducted from your salary in exchange for benefits of the same value, and because your pay is reduced, you pay less tax and national insurance.
