The Housing & A Fairer Stockton-on-Tees service are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated individual to join the Selective Licensing team and are looking for a Selective Licence Compliance Officer with drive and enthusiasm.
The team are committed to improving housing conditions, management practices, anti-social behaviour and environmental crime in the private rented sector and protecting residents within our area, ensuring everyone has a safe and well-maintained home and environment where they live. We take a twin track approach, working positively with those landlords and tenants who take their responsibilities seriously, whilst taking the strongest possible action against those who neglect their responsibilities, making full and appropriate use of legislation to achieve this goal.
The emphasis in this role is to investigate non-compliant landlords, taking the lead on legal casework related to the Selective Licensing scheme, providing support in respect of progressing legal proceedings and enforcement and assisting with developing case files.
You will play a lead role on the enforcement of selective licensing issues, requiring you to take compliance and enforcement action in line with the principals of the Councils Regulatory Services Policy and to attend prosecution and appeal hearings before the Courts or Tribunals as required.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of preparing and producing witness statements, case files and attending court of tribunals.
- Working directly or in a closely related field within private sector housing, legal, enforcement or licensing.
- An awareness of the legislation, regulations and codes of practice relevant to taking enforcement action in relation to a wide range of practical situations.
- Experience in the production of statutory notices and other legal documents.
- A track record of directing investigations resulting in prosecutions or other legal sanctions in accordance with relevant procedural and evidential rules.
Good interpersonal skills along with a flexible and professional approach to work and embracing the Council’s culture statement are essential.
This post is fixed term until 30th June 2028.
