Abbey Hill Academy is looking to appoint a dynamic and forward thinking Assistant Vice Principal to help shape and develop our offer to students who have a diagnosis of ASD.  This is an exciting opportunity for any current or aspiring leader.

In recent years, Abbey Hill Academy has expanded to develop a co-located base for over 50 students with autism and moderate learning difficulties at our Fairfax Provision located in the grounds of Acklam Grange School in Middlesbrough.

No two days are the same, so we are looking for a Teacher and Leader who can work at pace to turn ‘can’t do’ into ‘want to’ and is motivated by working with young people with complex needs. You will be confident in your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children in a calm and engaging environment, whilst being resilient and using innovative styles of teaching and leadership. This role will also involve working with a variety of external agencies so professional communication skills are a must.

We want to hear from people with drive and a willingness to go the ‘extra mile’ to improve the lives of the young people in our care. Whilst previous experience of working in a SEN environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.

The right candidate will need to be an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher, with high expectations of our children and themselves and have the ability, perseverance and resilience to be an outstanding practitioner.

The successful candidate will be joining a Multi Academy Trust that is moving forwards and is striving for excellence.  We offer a collaborative and supportive environment where staff are valued and nurtured as demonstrated by our Investors in People Gold Award status. Horizons Specialist Academy Trust consists of Abbey Hill Academy, Westlands Academy, Green Gates Academy, Hollis Academy, Mo Mowlam Academy, Archways Academy and The Woodlands Academy in North Yorkshire. The academies serve a population in excess of 800 students with a broad range of learning difficulties. The Academy has also achieved accreditation from the National Autistic Society.

Applications are welcomed from teachers from either a primary or a secondary background. As well as excellent curriculum knowledge, good communication and interpersonal skills, the successful candidates will have proven ability to lead and manage, as well as work as part of a team of teachers and support staff.  Experience of managing pastoral and safeguarding would also be beneficial.  Previous experience of working with students with SEN again would be desirable but not essential.

A visit to the academy would be highly recommended. To arrange this please contact HSATHR@horizonstrust.org.uk
An application form and further information is available on the Horizons Trust website - https://www.horizonstrust.org.uk/jobs

Completed application forms should be returned by 12 noon on Friday, 29th November to HSATHR@horizonstrust.org.uk or by post to HR Department, Abbey Hill Academy, Ketton Road, Stockton-on-Tees. TS19 8BU.
