This is an exciting time to join the Learning Disability and Autism Team at Newcastle City Council.

We have completed a restructure of the Team, and this has changed and improved the way we work with service users, their families, carers and our partner agencies. We have moved away from a generic LDA Team to a model involving a smaller Intake Team, Intervention Team and Review Team with dedicated practitioners and team managers in each.

The Intake Team focuses on new referrals and short-term assessment and involvement, including preventative and strengths-based work that promotes the independence of service users at the point of referral.

The Intervention Team is involved in those situations that require input to address complex needs and more in-depth work to fulfil statutory obligations often involving applications to the Court of Protection.

The Review Team undertakes annual reviews but also respond to situations where unexpected changes are required to existing services.

We are looking to recruit a Social Worker into the Intervention Team.

In order to be successful in your application, you must be dynamic, committed to providing an excellent social work service and bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill-base to the challenge of working with adults who have a learning disability and/or autism, their families and carers. You must be an enthusiastic team player who is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for adults.

Applicants are particularly welcome from Social Workers with an interest in completing Streamlined (Re:X) applications for the Court of Protection.

This post requires you to be a qualified Social Worker.  You should hold a relevant Social Work qualification such as the Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or CSS and be registered with the Social Work England.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in Adult Social Care and have relevant skills and experience across a range of areas, such as experience of assessment and support planning, Mental Capacity Act assessments, safeguarding and making applications to the Court of Protection work, as well as working with partner agencies as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will be self-motivating and will be able to prioritise and complete work to a high standard, often within tight timescales. You should also have knowledge of statutory requirements and relevant legislation.

We recognise the demands of the role and the need to support staff; we offer regular one-to-ones with a team manager, small group supervision sessions and regular team meetings as well as learning and development opportunities relevant to the role.

Newcastle is a great place to work and some of the benefits of working with us are:
• Generous annual leave plus Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually
• Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme
• A range of flexible working options, including the ability to take two flexi days per month
• Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Leave
• Working in a supportive team environment
• Training and development opportunities, including coaching and mentoring.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment.  This post is working in regulated activity.  If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s).  It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.
