Volunteer Opportunities at Sunderland Youth Justice Service
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? Sunderland Youth Justice Service is looking for dedicated volunteers to help guide young people and make a real impact in their lives.
We are seeking volunteers to primarily support Referral Order panels, with potential opportunities to assist within the wider service. When a young person receives a Referral Order, they must attend a youth offender panel, which includes two volunteers from the local community and a panel adviser from the Youth Justice Service.
Panel Responsibilities
- Meet with the young person, their parents/carers, and the victim (where appropriate)
- Agree on how the young person can repair the harm caused
- Develop a tailor-made contract (lasting between three and 12 months) aimed at reducing the risk of further offending and addressing the causes of the offending behaviour
- Review the young person's progress
Why Volunteer with Us?
- Diverse Backgrounds Welcome: Our volunteers come from various backgrounds, each bringing unique skills and experiences.
- Crucial Role: Volunteers play a vital part in preventing re-offending and safeguarding young people.
