As part of the Council’s Annual Apprenticeship Program, we have an amazing and rewarding career development opportunity to gain work experience in our Children’s Services whilst studying towards a Level 4 - Children & Young People Practitioner Apprenticeship qualification. We take pride in being a great place to work, where staff are valued, trusted, and supported to make a positive contribution. We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference, to serve the people of our borough, and who is committed to their own development.
We work with children who have become involved in the Criminal Justice System, helping them navigate the range of options available and supporting them to make positive informed choices and sustainable change about their futures.
You will assist in the delivery of interventions that will help children divert away from criminal activity and deter them from re-offending in the future, including gaining employment opportunities. You will be placed within our Youth Justice Team, working across the community including our Family Hubs, our dedicated youth space and in the young person’s home, this is a highly varied, rewarding, and interesting role.
The training will involve many opportunities to shadow colleagues working right across the service, supporting a caseload of children aged 10 -18 with access to excellent in-house and external professional development.
As this is an apprenticeship opportunity, you will be provided with all the training and support you need to be a success. All you need to demonstrate in your application be shortlisted for this opportunity is the following:
• A Level 3 qualification (A-levels or BTec - expected or obtained) or the equivalent level of work experience.
• Minimum 5 GCSEs Grade C/4 or above or equivalent Level 2 qualifications (must include English & Maths)
• A passion for working with, and making a difference for our young people
• Effective communication skills - listening, spoken and written
• Team player who is not afraid to try something new
• Commitment to own personal and professional development
Please outline in your personal statement in your online application how you meet this criteria.
If you are looking for a career where you can make a real difference to others, we welcome an application from you.
ABOUT OUR OFFER: We offer a competitive apprenticeship salary, paid time to attend training, generous annual leave, local government pension and access to a number of other benefits like discounts at high street and online retailers, and health & wellbeing support including access to mental wellbeing support and physiotherapy services. We are committed to supporting you throughout your apprenticeship with a dedicated mentor, and additional training & development opportunities. There is also the potential for you to secure long term employment with the Council upon completion of your qualification, and the ability to also apply for internal vacancies restricted to employees throughout your apprenticeship.
And that’s not all – We also offer a degree of flexible working with the opportunity of working from home in line with the Council’s Flexible Working Policy, following completion of a 6-month probationary period.
