WHAT IS INVOLVED? 
The Attendance Improvement Team provide attendance advice and support for parents, schools and other professionals in line with the newly introduced Working Together to improve school attendance guidance.  We undertake the statutory duties of the Local Authority carrying out investigations and legal interventions where school attendance offences may occur.
 
As a School Attendance Improvement Officer, you will provide advice, support and legal interventions to address barriers to attendance and improve outcomes for all pupils.This includes working with all stakeholders to improve attendance at individual, cohort, school, trust and local authority level through a strategic support and challenge approach.
 
You should have experience of working in the education or children’s services environment, alongside a knowledge of educational law, school systems and the courts.
 
You must be a skilled communicator who is able to contribute to an organisational climate that promotes open dialogue and supports reflection, critical thinking and constructive challenge; be adept at extracting, assessing, analysing and collating information and have excellent organisational skills.

WHAT WILL I NEED? 
You will need National Programme for Specialist Leaders in Behaviour and Attendance (NPSLBA) or NVQ 4Learning, Development and Support Services (LDSS) for Children, Young people and Those who Care for Them or equivalent, alongside a commitment to continuing future development.

HYBRID WORKING 
Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer.
