Further Information
The North East Combined Authority was formed on 7 May 2024. We are led by an Elected Mayor and Cabinet and cover the seven local authority areas of County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
Our purpose is to champion the full potential of our region. Collaborating with our partners and local authorities, we’ll create a better way of life by connecting communities, giving people the skills to succeed, and improving wellbeing for all, so that the North East is recognised as an outstanding place to live, work, visit and invest.
We are looking for a Programme Manager to join our Skills, Inclusion and Public Service Reform directorate, working within the Public Service Innovation team within the newly formed Child Poverty Reduction Unit to develop and implement flagship initiatives aimed at reducing child poverty, including our childcare grant programme.
Are you driven by the thought of addressing inequalities in the North East? Looking for a change that will excite and challenge you? Do you believe in the power of collaboration and what that can mean for children and families across the region?
Reporting to our Senior Programme Manager for child poverty reduction, this is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience in programme management, with a track record of delivering complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have experience of working strategically within the early education and childcare sector, leading or contributing to the development of programmes supporting children, families, and early years education and childcare settings.
The North East can be the most fantastic place to grow up and to raise a family, but regional inequalities and poverty are limiting the life chances and outcomes of too many children across the region - and their ability to benefit from everything it has to offer. It is holding the whole of our region back. Addressing educational inequalities and reducing child poverty are critical social and economic goals for the region, and a fundamental part of our economic growth mission.
As an ideal applicant, you’ll have demonstrable experience of leading programmes and projects and will be able to work well with stakeholders. You’ll know the importance of gathering data to measure performance and will thrive on working across a wide-ranging programme of work with multiple, interlinking projects. You will understand the importance of supporting and improving the existing systems and will be driven by the knowledge that we are ultimately helping the young people who need it most.
This post is fixed term for a period of 12 months.
If you would like to be part of a driven team that is critical to the future of the region and you can help us demonstrate successful impact to ensure equality of opportunity for children and families, then we really want to hear from you. Secondment applicants will be considered for this role.
In return for your valuable contribution, you will have access to an excellent benefits package:
- Generous leave entitlement, starting at 26 days, rising to 31 days after 5 years continuous service, plus 8 bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time staff)
- Flexible working practices including working from other locations and from home.
- A generous employer contribution pension scheme.
- A range of salary sacrifice schemes.
- Commitment to staff development and continuous learning.
- Progression and career enhancement opportunities.
If you have the skills and qualities to succeed in one of these roles and are committed to delivering the combined authority’s vision and values, we look forward to hearing from you. If you would like an informal discussion, or further information about this roles please contact Joanna Unthank on Joanna.unthank@northeast-ca.gov.uk.
