  • Do you want to work in a role that allows you to stay local to Stockton-on-Tees and work from home for part of your week?
Well look no further – this is the opportunity for you!

We are delighted to be recruiting for a Principal Civil Engineer to join our experienced and friendly team.

In this role, you will oversee the delivery of significant capital projects across Stockton-on-Tees, from routine improvements to large-scale major highway works. Some of our recent projects include the Bishopsgarth Bridge installations, Elton Interchange, Thornaby Towns Fund cycleways and Durham Lane cycleway.

Civil Engineering projects at the Council are uniquely rewarding, offering a hands-on approach that allows you oversee projects from initial design and planning through to the construction and completion stages. In practice, this will include progressing the feasibility, design, supervision and construction of civil engineering projects.

You will also lead on complex projects, maximising the contribution of each team member, whilst being responsible for compliance with Health & Safety legislation, CDM regulations and budgetary control.

We welcome innovation and are looking for someone who is confident proposing and delivering design solutions that are not only effective and timely, but cost-efficient and environmentally conscious.

It’s an exciting time to join us as you will be involved in the large-scale programme of investment which is underway to transform the look and feel of our town centres. You’ll have the satisfaction of seeing the results of your hard work and the pride of knowing: ‘I helped build that’, as well as directly shaping a sustainable built environment for the local communities and future generations of the Borough.

You will join a multi-disciplined, successful team who pride themselves on a professional approach, with positive and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will receive the support you need to thrive and career development opportunities – in fact many of our senior leadership team started their career at the Council and have loved it so much they have stayed!

Don’t just take our word for it! Here’s what our team think…

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is a great environment for me to learn multiple disciplines of civil engineering, and I am able to work on various schemes within highways, structures, and flooding.
