This is an exciting opportunity to join Gateshead’s Public Health team, which is being expanded as the Council takes forward its Thrive strategy, with health and wellbeing at its heart, and builds its recovery from the impact of COVID-19. We are seeking to appoint a full time, permanent Public Health Intelligence Analyst.
This post will support our Public Health Knowledge and Intelligence lead and will work closely with colleagues across the Public Health Team and other Council services. You will collect, analyse, interpret and present public health information to support Public Health programmes, initiatives, local and national policy and Council priorities. You will have knowledge of the analytics, data and information needs of the local government and wider health and care systems.
In order to support public health colleagues and senior officers on legislative changes you will have knowledge of relevant legislation, national strategies, policies, and interventions in relation to public health and community safety. You will have knowledge statistical techniques and procedures relevant to the analysis and interpretation of health datasets, and their application.
You will hold a relevant degree or professional qualification, or an equivalent level of experience in a similar role.
You will have experience of influencing leaders and stakeholders based on evidence and research. It is also essential that you have experience of using statistical techniques, analysing large complex databases, working with multiple sets of data, interpreting requirements, and responding to complex enquires. You will also have experience of working effectively within a specialist service/local authority environment and engaging with a range of stakeholders to provide a clear and balanced guidance.
To be successful in this post you must also have experience of demonstrating highly numerate skills with highly developed analytical skills to present complex/sensitive information. As well as effective communication skills and proficient use of Microsoft Office.
You will be aware of data protection and GDPR and the principles of information governance as well as health inequalities and the social determinants of health and health and demographic data sources, datasets and their application.
