During the covid pandemic Northumberland County Council adopted agile working from home. Going forward our work smart programme will continue to encourage a blend of home and base site working. Within the Community Occupational Therapy service all of our staff are enabled to work agile from home or any Northumberland County Council site and we expect to continue with a blend of working between home and base sites.

We have a vacancy for an Occupational Therapist (Northumberland County Council band 7) to work in our North Northumberland team. The team works across two base sites, one in Alnwick Fire Station and the other in MacDonald House Berwick. Both offices are shared with the wider adult social care services and rehab therapy services supporting MDT working across services to maximise client outcomes. The performance of the North team is consistently high, achieving the service key performance indictors each month.
The team is a mix of Occupational Therapy Assistants, Technical Instructors, qualified Occupational Therapists and an Occupational Therapist team manager. The service works with adult residents of Northumberland who are experiencing functional problems relating to physical disability, mental health or learning disability. The work is varied with involvement in everything from basic equipment provision through to major adaptations and manual handling assessments.
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who is enthusiastic about supporting people to function at their best in their own home and interested in pursuing or progressing their career within the community setting. The postholder will need effective communication and IT skills to support their day-to-day work. Being a car driver is essential to the role in the community.
All members of the service have a named supervisor who with the team manager will support from the start with a thorough induction to the organisation as well as the service and continue support through regular formal supervision, informal supervision as needed, support with Continuing Professional Development to meet the standards of practice set by RCOT. All members of the service are involved with a range of working groups looking at service development opportunities that also aid further personal development and leadership skills.
This post is permanent full time (37 hours) Monday to Friday 8.30 to 5.00 and Northumberland County Council band 7 (Starting salary £29,174 in 2021/22).
