The North East Combined Authority is searching for an exceptional individual to chair the new Business and Economy Board. As Chair, you’ll have a unique opportunity to lead a team of influential business leaders, advising the North East Mayor, Kim McGuinness, and Cabinet on critical issues that impact our region.

Role Purpose

The Business and Economy Board plays a vital role in ensuring the perspectives and needs of businesses are heard and integrated into regional decision making. By leading the Board, you’ll contribute to shaping the emerging Local Growth Plan through expert advice to the Mayor and Cabinet.

As Chair, you’ll:

  • Provide expert independent advice: Advising the Mayor and Cabinet on the performance of the North East economy, to influence policy, stimulate economic growth, productivity and competitiveness.
  • Champion Regional Growth: Work with the Mayor and Cabinet to advance the North East’s ambitions to create opportunity for everyone.
  • Engage and Influence: Act as a key advocate for North East CA’s initiatives within regional, national, and international business networks.
  • Drive Strategic Initiatives: Collaborate on a delivery plan that supports the CA’s mission and provides actionable insights to foster growth across the North East.

Why This Role Matters

The Chair is a pivotal figure in the North East’s journey towards growth, innovation, and resilience. Your leadership will help shape strategic initiatives across the business community and key sectors, strengthening our economy, boosting connectivity, and attracting investment. This voluntary and independent role, requiring approximately two days per month, offers an unparalleled opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the region's future. You’ll also join the North East CA Cabinet as a non-voting member.
