Further Information
Are you looking to start a career in sport  development or physical education?

We are seeking to appoint a PE and School Sport Support Officer with the ability to deliver high quality physical activity sessions based upon the needs of young people. This is an exciting opportunity to support non-specialist teachers in the planning, delivery and assessment of curriculum PE lessons either as PPA cover or for the purposes of upskilling teaching staff as part of the PE & School Sport Service service level requirement.

This post is term time only, plus 5 training days, and is fixed term until 31st August 2025.

We are looking for a colleague who:
  • Has the ability to deliver high quality physical activity sessions based upon the needs of young people.
  • Has good planning & organisational skills, using their own initiative to work with minimal supervision.
  • Is self-motivated with the ability to motivate and enthuse teaching staff, young people, other coaches and sports leaders.
  • Has a full UK drivers licence.
Newcastle PE and School Sport Service is based at Benfield School in the east of Newcastle upon Tyne and is part of NEAT Academy Trust, a family of seven primary and secondary schools. At the heart of our trust is the aim to nurture, educate, achieve and transform the lives of all young people within the communities we serve across the North East.

Our service covers the whole of Newcastle upon Tyne, engaging with and delivering a variety of programmes and services to First, Primary, Middle and High Schools. We provide high quality PE and sporting opportunities to children and young people; raising participation to ultimately encourage and motivate them to lead healthy, active, lifestyles.

Hear from one of our colleagues Joe Ingram on what he likes most about working with us:

At Newcastle PE and School Sport Service you are given the opportunity to work as part of a team with like minded people who have a love for PE. Our Team has a variety of strengths that we bring to the group, meaning in this role, you are constantly learning new drills. Having been in the role for a short period of time, I have been able to progress quickly by being given additional responsibilities which upskilled my abilities and landed me a promotion. The service gives you the opportunity to work with young people across the city, inspiring them and improving their abilities. Working with and supporting PE Leads in over 100 different schools makes every day  different but equally rewarding. We have a fantastic team here and it is a joy to watch them progress and to play a role in supporting them with different ideas to develop their practice. I particularly enjoy a Friday afternoon in this role when we do a full team delivery of assessments across the city.

In return we offer:
  • Great opportunities for continuing professional development and a career pathway across the trust.
  • A team of hardworking, dedicated and friendly staff where everyone is valued.
  • The benefit of working in a highly collaborative multi academy trust.
  • Membership of the Local Government Pensions Scheme which the trust also contributes to on your behalf.
  • Recognition of previous service with other schools, academies, local government etc.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), delivered by Health Assured – the UK and Irelands leading wellbeing provider.
  • Good public transport links via Tyne and Wear Metro and road links from the A19 and A1058 Coast Road.
Interested? If you would like to join us and feel you could thrive here, then please read the accompanying job description and person specification and complete an application form by clicking ‘apply now’ no later than midnight on Wednesday 16th October 2024.
