Hylton Castle is a Grade I Listed 14th Century Gatehouse in the heart of a residential area and following funding now secured from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the castle will be developed to create a heritage led learning and visitor centre. The Learning Manager will play a crucial role in recruiting and managing volunteers and part time staff and will devise and oversee the delivery of the project’s educational programmes.

Working closely with a range of local and regional partners the post holder will work with the project director and board to build a team consisting of part time learning and front of house staff. Crucial to the success of the wider project, this will include a small team of locally recruited young people and apprentices to support front line delivery, operations and volunteers.

The Hylton Castle project presents an opportunity to interpret and share both the rich cultural heritage of the castle and the biodiversity of the adjacent Hylton Dene. Experience of formal and informal teaching, education and / or lifelong learning and subject knowledge of local history, built or natural heritage would be an advantage.
