Sunderland City Council are looking for a Highway Officer to work within the Asset & Network Management Team.

We have introduced a recent street works permit scheme to replace the previous noticing scheme, to manage all street and road works carried on the highway.

As Highways Officer you will support the delivery of the Council’s responsibilities and functions of the Asset & Network Management Team by undertaking Highway condition inspections and ensuring that all work activities carried out in the public highway are undertaken in accordance with the council’s Permit scheme; Traffic Management Act 2004; New Roads and Street Works Act 1991; Highways Act 1980; Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and associated codes of practice.

Additionally, there will also be duties and opportunities to carry out inspections of highway works associated with special infrastructure projects within the highway, such as large-scale fibre installations and similar.

Previous experience of highway network management, street works co-ordination, Highway Inspection or working within a utilities/local authority or similar service background, would be an advantage.
