Job Overview:

We are looking for a dynamic practitioner who is both creative and passionate about Food Technology. This role is available to start in April/September .

Role Overview:

Primarily, you will be an exceptional established or new and aspiring Food Teacher, you will have the opportunity to teach students practical skills in food technology, nutrition, and culinary arts. You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing Tech Food lessons in accordance with the national curriculum, ensuring that all students develop essential cooking techniques, food hygiene practices, and an appreciation for healthy eating.

In the classroom and beyond, the successful candidate will set high expectations for themselves, staff, and pupils, and motivate and inspire our pupils to fulfil their potential. Excellent subject knowledge and an ability to form supportive professional relationships with both colleagues and pupils are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  •  Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging Food lessons covering a variety of topics, including cooking methods, recipe development, food preparation, and nutrition, inspiring students to develop their culinary skills and creativity.
  •  Practical Cooking: Lead practical cooking sessions in the school kitchen, guiding students in preparing and cooking a range of dishes while promoting safe food handling practices and kitchen hygiene.
  •  Nutritional Education: Educate students about the importance of nutrition, balanced diets, and healthy eating habits, empowering them to make informed choices about their food intake and dietary habits.
  •  Food Technology: Introduce students to food technology concepts and processes, such as food preservation and food product development, fostering their understanding of the food industry and technological innovations.
  •  Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student practical skills and knowledge through practical demonstrations, food tasting sessions, and written assessments, providing constructive feedback to support their learning and development.
  •  Behaviour Management: Establish a positive and supportive learning environment in the kitchen, implementing effective behaviour management strategies that promote teamwork, respect, and responsibility.
  •  Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Creative & Technological Studies Faculty and across the school to share best practices, resources, and ideas for enhancing teaching and learning.

We are looking for a teacher who can quickly form strong professional relationships with pupils - these must be founded on mutual respect and you must be able to secure trust, if you can do this while also being a dynamic and inspirational practitioner committed to all areas of school life, then we have a role for you.
  •  Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification with a specialism in Food Technology, Catering, or related field.
  •  Preferably a second subject that can be delivered with passion while supporting pupil outcomes.
  •  Strong practical skills and knowledge in food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen management.
  •  Previous experience teaching Food Tech / Catering at the secondary level, preferably within a UK school setting.
  •  Enthusiasm for teaching practical skills and promoting healthy eating habits among students.
  •  Commitment to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment in the kitchen.
