Part time, Permanent 18.5 hours per week 

Tyne & Wear Archives are the local authority archive service caring for the records of Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and North and South Tyneside. The documents range from the 12th to 21st centuries and include building plans, school, hospital and church records as well as business records, especially those of important local industries such as shipbuilding and mining. 
 

 An exciting opportunity has arisen to join this award-winning service; we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated Curatorial Assistant to work as part of our Archives team. This post will mainly be based at Discovery Museum.  

The successful applicant will deliver a high standard of support to our Archives team to deliver our nationally accredited archives service.  

This is a practical, hands-on job and you will undertake a range of activities associated with caring for the Archive Collections and making them available and accessible for use by the public.  

You will work independently and with colleagues to produce archives collections from our stores for research in our searchroom and at events, taking due regard for collections care and Health and Safety. This role will involve regular handling of heavy, fragile and precious archive items. 
 
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills are essential as are self-motivation and an ability to work on your own initiative.  

This is a part time role for 18.5 hours a week. Working days will be Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning and Friday. (Working days are fixed due to operational requirements)
