We are therefore seeking to recruit more Civil Enforcement Officers within our parking enforcement team, which is part of the Council’s Highways & Waste Service.

About the role….

Our Civil Enforcement Officers patrol the roads and public car parks of Gateshead across a shift pattern. Your primary role will be to encourage safe and considerate parking by taking appropriate action, in line with national and local requirements, against improperly parked vehicles so that other drivers and road users can go about their daily business with minimum disruption.

 

Your key goals will be to improve road safety, help keep traffic flowing and to make sure that everybody who drives in Gateshead has an equal and fair opportunity to park and go about their daily business, as well as to help protect the Councils’ parking revenue.

 

Experience of working in a parking enforcement environment would be an advantage, but full training and support will be provided to develop you into the role.

 

What you’ll be doing?

 

Enforcing parking restrictions in line with national and local requirements and managing parking facilities both on street and car parks.

 

To record and report ticket machine faults.

 

To record and report defective regulatory signs, lines other parking equipment.

 

Provide and maintain a high standard of customer service at all times.

You must have…

Knowledge

Parking related legislation
Traffic Management Act 2004

Qualifications

City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Parking Enforcement Officers (1885) (or willing to work towards attaining this qualification)
Full driving licence, access to a car to a means to mobility support

Officers should be

Able to deal politely and tactfully with a wide range of people including members of the public who may be confrontational, aggressive and abusive.
Recognising potential conflict and taking steps to diffuse situation.
Remaining calm under pressure.
Working alone independently.
Ability to carry out duties involving a significant amount of walking in all weather conditions on a daily basis.
Able to demonstrate a flexible approach to work.

Experience

Strong communication, observational and customer care skills.
Working in a customer focused environment.
Computer skills
