Further Information
“This is Redcar and Cleveland. We are an ambitious council keen to build on our strong track record of innovation and partnership working, ensuring that we create a flourishing future for the borough and all of its residents. Key to this is a committed workforce who always gives their best. Offering a fast paced, progressive working environment, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is a great career move.”

The Directorate of Resources has an opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic person who is willing to work towards gaining experience and relevant qualifications in order to pursue a career in Building Services as a Technician.

The Operations Management Team provide several different services to a variety of customers and clients within the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland across a wide range of building types including administration buildings, schools, and leisure centres.

The role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to gain experience in the Mechanical and Electrical section of Property Services. This experience should allow the candidate to understand the design, fault finding, maintaining, repairing and installation of the Mechanical and associated electrical components required. Estimating of works and the procurement of materials and services will also form a part of the training.

The successful applicant will work 37 hours per week under the supervision of the Commercial Manager and Mechanical Engineer and will work closely with other supervisory staff and trade operatives as well as service users and other customers. As part of these hours the successful candidate will be expected to attend further education in order to gain relevant qualifications.

This apprenticeship will require the candidate to attend college at Hartlepool on a weekly basis, one day a week and any other times when required. The candidate must be able to travel independently to attend the college course requirements. They will also need to be flexible enough to work 5 days over one week in order to be responsive to the service and on occasion work beyond outside normal working hours.

We are looking for a person who has the ability to undertake manual handling activities in confined spaces, climb scaffolding and ladders to access various sites. Appropriate training would be given to carry out all these tasks. Successful candidates must be willing to work in diverse weather conditions and have good written and oral communication skills in order to develop good working relationships with others to achieve service delivery targets.

The council holds ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award.

We offer very attractive terms and conditions of employment, including generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working hours (where appropriate), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and access to numerous other salary sacrifice schemes and staff benefits/discounts, including a lease car scheme.
