Further Information
North Tyneside Council’s Registration Team is based at the Grade 2 listed Maritime Chambers Building in North Shields where the team deals with the registration of births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships within the area of North Tyneside.
The Register Office wishes to expand its pool of Casual Deputy Registrars to assist in the registration of marriages and civil partnerships.
The successful candidates will play a key role in registering and performing marriages, producing copy certificates and providing administrative support to the office. In addition to conducting ceremonies at Maritime Chambers you will also travel to a range of wonderful ceremony venues in the area.
Previous registration experience is not essential as full training will be given. You will be joining a welcoming team that takes great pride in delivering an essential statutory service to our residents on what is often one of their most important days. The team receives consistently high customer feedback.
Experience in a frontline customer service environment would be useful. The ability to speak confidently and clearly in public is essential. The ability to understand and apply rules and procedures, to maintain accurate records, to take payments and deal with sensitive and confidential information is essential.
You will join a pool of casual registrars with hours allocated on an “as and when” required basis. There are no guaranteed or minimum hours per week.
Casual registrar hours are set on a three-monthly advance rota although flexibility to changing demand including covering for staff holidays and sickness is sought. Hours of work can vary throughout the week from Monday to Sunday and include Bank Holidays. Weekend work is usually required. You may be required to work at short notice for varying periods of time, therefore a flexible approach to your availability is essential.
