Durham County Council has been successful in attracting funding from the European Commission to develop a new, innovative programme for unemployed young people in County Durham. The Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) will support unemployed 16-24 year olds improve their skills & move into employment, training or education. The YEI programme is running from January 2016 to July 2018.

We have set ourselves ambitious targets to reduce the number of young people unemployed in the county and we want to build a team of enthusiastic, motivated people to develop the YEI programme. This is a new team taking on a new challenge. We are looking for people who can make a real contribution, both to the team and to young people in the county. We need someone who wants to make a difference.

The successful candidates will be experienced in working with young people not engaging in Education, Employment & Training, and also have a proven track record in encouraging young people to participate. Through independent Information, Advice & Guidance, successful candidates will be instrumental in supporting progression into activities delivered by a variety of organisations. The Progression Workers will work as part of a team, and work closely with the Transition Advisers to develop strong links with a wide range of partners, and ensure a co-ordinated and collaborative approach to supporting YEI participants. Work with employers & learning providers is key to the role, identifying vacancies and opportunities for young people.

The post holders will demonstrate & maintain an in depth knowledge and understanding of the barriers to progression of young people aged 16-24 and the provision available in County Durham to support them.

The post holders will be supporting vulnerable groups, in particular young people with SEND and Care Leavers.

The post holders will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
