Sunderland City Council are seeking Independent Reviewing Officers (IRO) to join an expanding IRO team based at Lambton House. The role will include all functions attributed to the statutory role of Independent Reviewing Officers as detailed within the IRO Handbook. In addition they will chair child protection conferences and reviews engaging quality assurance functions within Children's Services, such as themed case file audits. In addition to the above the successful applicants will need to assist the IRO service in its wider multi-agency role such as developing and delivering training. Successful applicants would also need the ability to provide cover and support to the local authority designated officer during times of annual leave and sickness.

Applicants will need to have a social work qualification and be able to demonstrate extensive experience of child care practice post qualification. It would be preferred that some of this experience is at a managerial level. Applicants should have a throrough understanding of the legal framework underpinning child care. As an IRO they would need to provide a level of professional scrutiny to Children's Services to seek to ensure that children have appropriate plans in place.
