We wish to appoint an Education Welfare Officer to join Brambles Primary Academy to work as part of the Welfare Team across the Trust. This will involve working closely with academy staff using your own drive and initiative to develop strategies to support families with their legal responsibility of ensuring that their children attend school. You will be the link between home, the academy and agencies and must be prepared to challenge attitudes which may hinder this objective.

You will be required to visit the homes of children absent from the academy, find ways to build excellent relationships with parents and help to arrange alternative education for pupils who are excluded. You will also be accountable for monitoring registers, verifying reasons for absence and identifying cases of non-attendance that require further investigation and may lead to legal proceedings. You will analyse patterns in behaviour and provide feedback to the leadership team.

In addition you will be required to work closely with the academies Safeguarding Lead, advising on child protection issues, preparing reports and attending child protection conferences as well as other meetings related to the well-being of children.

You should have an understanding of the statutory nature of education welfare work, a good standard of education and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. You will need to be comfortable and confident communicating with parents, children and other professionals. The hours for the role are flexible to meet the needs of the Trust, the academy and its community. As the role involves travel, you must possess a current full driving licence and will need your own car insured for business purposes.

Whilst the appointment is based at Brambles Primary Academy, as part of Tees Valley Education Trust we see ourselves very much as a team, serving three different communities. Therefore, we use every opportunity to share excellent practice, skills and expertise to improve outcomes for all. We are a fabulous team and we all enjoy working together to improve outcomes for our children. We are offering a varied and challenging role in a busy and rewarding working environment with access to excellent continuous professional development, as part of a highly functioning team.

Ofsted reported that “Staff and pupils show enormous respect for each other. This ensures a very welcoming, happy and harmonious place. The behaviour of pupils is outstanding. This is because of the very high standards set by all staff’.

Application packs are available from either the academy or Trust websites www.teesvalleyeducation.org.uk or can be obtained by contacting the academy office on 01642 210704. Letters of application should be addressed to the Head Teacher, Miss K Gleave.

Closing date for applications:Monday 5th December 2016 (12 noon)
Shortlisting date:Monday 5th December 2016
Interview date:Friday 9th December 2016

The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment will also depend on proving qualifications.
