A highly motivated, experienced and suitably qualified residential support officer is required to carry out the role of an RSO across placement services based at Sycamore House, working within the policy and procedures of North Tyneside.

The role requires you to:

1. To work within a multi disciplinary agency framework to promote life chances for children and young people in public care.
2. To support and maintain the purpose and function of the unit in particular and service in general, working within policy, procedures and guidance.
3. Ensure compliance with national and local guidance and legislation (including those of NTC residential placement services and of Ofsted).
4. To ensure that key stages in the stay of young people, such as admissions and discharges, are properly managed and that work reflects decisions recorded in care plans.
5. Support key workers in implementing targeted work outlined in care plans and in meeting the day to day needs of service users
6. Follow direction from key workers and managers in tasks to be undertaken
7. To offer quality care meeting the physical, personal and emotional needs of the children and young people accessing the service.
8. To work within an inclusive partnership positively promoting the views of children and young people.
9. Undertake targeted work with young people and families to identify and resolve barriers to progress.
10. Engage young people in positive activities, encouraging involvement in the community as well as in education, training and employment
11. Focus on progressing young people through preparation for independence, including education and work readiness.
12. Undertake unit activities and opportunities, including overnight trips
13. Ensure that children and their families are aware of their rights and the complaints procedure, using the young person’s preferred method of communication.
14. Effectively administer medication as required.
15. Focus on the welfare and safeguarding of service users.
16. To be part of a team contributing to an open and supportive environment.
17. Communicate effectively with colleagues and other professionals.
18. Complete effective written records and ensure tasks are completed and information handed over
19. To participate in supervision and training in order to enhance professional development, standards and good practice.
20. Undertake administrative tasks that support the running of the unit: shift cover, petty cash, repairs (Health & Safety).
21. Support the domestic running of the unit (cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc)
Provide outreach support for young people in other accommodation provision
