For the last two years Children’s Social Care in Newcastle has been involved in the Department for Education Innovation Programme. We have designed an approach to the delivery of social work that puts systemic practice with children, young people and families at its heart and has high ambitions for achieving the very best outcomes.

We have established eleven Long Term Social Work Units, each comprising a Consultant Social Worker, Senior Social Work Practitioner, Social Workers, Family Support Worker and a dedicated Unit Co-ordinator providing expertise in organisation and administration.

We currently have a vacancy for a Consultant Social Worker in one of our Units which focuses on children and young people who are Looked After long-term in foster or residential placements.

You would be responsible for day to day leadership of the Unit and benefit from increased co-working and the time to do enhanced face to face social work. You will be encouraged to develop your skills and provided with opportunities for further training and development.

Working closely and co-ordinating activity with other highly skilled professionals you will be supported to apply systemic and social learning theory approaches to deliver focused and purposeful interventions in front-line practice. Building upon the strong track record we have already of delivering a high quality service in Newcastle, you will be actively involved in shaping our new approach to social work.

You must be dynamic, innovative and bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill-base to the challenge of working with vulnerable children and families. You will be an enthusiastic team player who is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for children in Newcastle.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list. It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.
