Attendance Improvement Coordinator
Band 5 - £20,456 (pro rata, term time only)

Temporary until April 2017 in the first instance

Closing date for applications- 5th December 2016 at 12 noon

Not only will you be helping to raise the level of attendance in school, you will also play a key part in making sure that the children of South Shields School receive the education they deserve. You will make home visits and liaise with families to determine the reasons behind extended periods of unauthorised absence. As well as making parents aware of their statutory responsibility, we will ask you to use legal sanctions, including fixed penalty fines and court orders, to ensure the regular attendance of pupils.

In addition to an awareness of truancy and child protection issues, you will have experience of working with young people and their parents within an educational setting. What’s more, your ability to manage deadlines and meet service delivery plans will be just as important as your understanding of office equipment and IT systems. In return, we will give you all of the support and guidance you need to realise your objectives.

You will have thorough and up-to date knowledge of safeguarding, working with external agencies and have experience of working with hard to reach families. You will need to have resilience and a methodical approach to working.

As a member of staff at South Shields School, you will look forward to an exciting and comprehensive program of CPD to support you in your role. Our support team work collaboratively to provide the highest standards of learning, teaching and support for all of our young people. In addition the successful candidate would be expected to contribute to our thriving extra-curricular provision and wider school life.

South Shields School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will require an Enhanced Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
