About Us:
At South Tyneside Council, we are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of children, young people, and families. We are looking for someone with proven leadership qualities, enthusiasm and extensive experience of Social Work with children and families to be the Principal Social Worker for children and families. Our service is currently working to embed a relational and restorative practice framework and need a dynamic, skilled and passionate Principal Social Worker to support the Senior Leadership Team in driving forward this way of working across our skilled and engaged workforce.
The Role:
You will be joining an ambitious organisation and Children’s Service, which has huge potential and an empowering culture.
The PSW should lead by example, be visible to the workforce and act as a voice for frontline practitioners to enable change within the organisation. The post holder will have the opportunity to improve social work practice on the front line and creating a direct link between practice and organisational strategy and planning processes.
As such you must hold a Social Work England (SWE) registration and have proven experience of shaping and influencing a culture of productivity and learning and development of strategies to improve the practice of others within a statutory and legislative framework setting.
You will support services to deliver effective outcomes for the children and families we work with, through championing good quality, consistent social work practice and standards. As an integral part of our robust audit programme, your role will be central in helping to drive up standards, through a culture that promotes openness, supportive challenge and practice improvement.
The role has responsibility for maximising student placements and coordinating our ASYE Programme, as well as ensuring a professional training pathway throughout the social work progression route.
You will have a proven track record in developing an innovative and robust recruitment and retention offer for social workers and social care staff across children’s services.
You must have an exceptional knowledge of Social Work methodologies, theory and best practice and a working knowledge of relevant legislation and case law. Knowledge of the national political and professional context, regulatory processes, inspections and expectations are also essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and support the implementation of relational and restorative practices across the service.
Line manage and drive the workstreams of our Practice Development & Improvement Lead and Social Care Workforce & Support Officer.
Oversee the development and progression of students, newly qualified social workers and experiences practitioners.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, staff engagement, and wellbeing.
Ensure that training and development opportunities are accessible and effective for all staff members.
Collaborate with colleagues to promote best practices and achieve the best outcomes for children and families.
Represent the service at local, regional and national forums, supporting and developing key stakeholder relationships and delivering on key workstreams across the Children’s Services agenda.
