This is an exciting and varied opportunity for an experienced Ecologist to join our small but dynamic Ecology Team.
 
South Tyneside boasts an internationally important coastline, designated for its unique vegetation and wintering waders, along with a diversity of wildlife sites from fabulous magnesian limestone meadows to urban river corridors.  Supporting the Senior Ecologist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring biodiversity is at the heart of place making in our Borough.
 
The Ecology Team is responsible for ensuring that the Council meets its statutory duties relating to biodiversity and wildlife.  We provide specialist technical advice on ecology, biodiversity, nature conservation, wildlife legislation, Habitats Regulations Assessments and the statutory duties introduced under the Environment Act 2021.
 
We are key consultees to planning applications and contribute to policy and guidance across a range of Council functions.  We also actively manage the Council’s network of wildlife sites to maintain and enhance their biodiversity interest and provide opportunities for public access and enjoyment.  We advise on Council projects and get involved in biodiversity projects and initiatives to deliver nature recovery across the Borough and beyond, working collaboratively with regional partners and agencies.
