Overview:

In South Tyneside, our Children, Young People, and families are at the forefront of everything we do.  We want every Child, Young Person and their families to feel supported in times of need and empowered to make the right decisions; we are committed to making a difference.  We take pride in our Children’s Residential Services, where Staff are valued, supported, and trusted to support and drive this vision forward.

We are excited to have the option to recruit permanent contracts for Residential Childcare Officers to work in our Children’s Homes for Children and Young People with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties.  We have a variety of homes and it is an exciting time to work in South Tyneside Council as we are expanding our Residential Services and are in the process of building new homes.

As a Residential Childcare Officer, you will be responsible for the delivery of a high-quality Children’s Residential provision including working directly with Children, Young People, and their families.  Residential Childcare Officers are an integral part of the wider Care Team and work alongside other professionals to advocate, support and develop Children, Young People, and their families to offer and support positive experiences, develop knowledge and skills in preparation for adulthood and to achieve the best possible outcomes by using a range of intervention methods and approaches.  The roles will support the wider Service to achieve its vision of providing high quality care to Children and Young People within a warm, caring, and nurturing family styled Children’s Home.

About You:

  • You will have a Level 3 or 4 Qualification in Children and Young People (or willingness to undertake).
  • You have previous experience of direct work with Children and Young People and their families (but not essential).
  • You can demonstrate an ability to place the Child or Young Person and family at the centre of all practice and decision making.
  • You can undertake shift work, including Sleep-Ins, weekends, and Bank Holidays.
  • Experience of working in a Children’s Residential setting is desirable, but not essential.
  • You will benefit from a package of support and personal and professional development opportunities.
