We have a vacancy for a specialist teacher in the School Effectiveness team at Newcastle City Council.
The social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) service is made up of specialist teachers and support assistants. It provides support to schools, working with school staff and individual pupils to improve provision for SEMH needs. The service is mainly aimed at primary age pupils, but also works in Year 7 and will eventually cover all Key Stage 3.
You will be a key part of this service. You will be the first port of call for schools who need the best possible advice and support for pupils. You will visit schools to support pupils and the staff working with them. You will work closely with professionals across a range of services to ensure strong outcomes for pupils experiencing SEMH difficulties.
You will be a qualified, experienced, successful teacher with significant expertise in supporting pupils with SEMH difficulties across the primary sector. You will have the experience and the credibility to work effectively with colleagues within the Council, with school staff and with a range of external organisations. You will have a thorough understanding of primary school SEMH and inclusion issues, and will be able to adapt this understanding to work in secondary schools.
You will be passionate about achieving the best outcomes for all children. You will be able to develop high quality learning for pupils experiencing SEMH difficulties. You will be a strong communicator, using your expertise and empathy to able to identify strengths and weaknesses in provision and discuss these sensitively with school staff.

Please note that this post requires considerable experience and success as a teacher. It is not suitable for early career teachers or those without qualified teacher status.
