Further Information
In Newcastle we want our children and young people to be able to tell us that they feel safe, happy and included, ready for their next steps, healthy and well cared for, and are heard in decisions. Our SEND Strategy sets out our ambition which is to work together to create an inclusive city to ensure children and young people with SEND get the right support at the right time so that they go on to live their best lives.
We are looking for an experienced SEND Caseworker with a good working knowledge and understanding of current SEND legislation such as the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.
As a SEND Caseworker you will work closely with a range of partners including educational settings, parents/carers, social care colleagues, health services, youth offending and educational psychology. You will ensure that timely education, health and care assessment and reviews are undertaken and completed within statutory timescales, for children and young people aged 0 - 25 and ensure that appropriate provision is made available to meet the needs of individual children and young people.
We are looking for individuals with a flexible, can-do approach. Essential skills to carry out the role include excellent teamwork skills and effective time management. You will have the ability to think creatively, and problem solve, working proactively and collaboratively across various sectors to achieve safe and supportive outcomes for children and their families whilst understanding and appreciating the challenges and demands this may present.
As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage even if you indicate otherwise.

We are strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and a range of other recruitment checks.
We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment.  This post is working in regulated activity.  If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s).  It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

Apply online at www.northeastjobs.org.uk, select 'Apply Now' and complete our online application form. Any communication sent to you regarding your application will be sent to the email address you have set up on your Northeast Jobs account, so you will need to ensure that you check your inbox.
