The Job

Planning Policy and economic growth are key to delivering our strategic plan and the priorities for our residents and communities. We have fully functioning and well-resourced services that protects the interests of the area, while creating the homes, infrastructure and environment we desperately need. The role will be central to supporting the delivery of housing and our economy and we will seek to develop a Local Plan to promote and develop housing and expand the economy, in line with our ambitions. In becoming a greener, more sustainable place, we will develop policies which promote green and sustainable development, working closely with our communities and stakeholders.
 
The Candidate 

As the Plan Manager working on preparation of a joint Local Plan for Newcastle and Gateshead, you will lead on management of workstreams through the full life cycle of the plan preparation. This will include managing scoping evidence, plan development, public consultation and examination in public. You work will be pivotal in helping to deliver the Local Plan. In taking on this role, you will make an important and positive contribution to the development of the Local Plan, supporting the delivery of corporate objectives contributing to addressing climate change, poverty and the cost-of-living crisis.
As the technical expert on planning policy and local planning, you will provide timely advice and guidance not only to your colleagues, but to the councillors and committees. With an eye to the future, you will use your knowledge of future changes in planning to ensure we deliver our services effectively and efficiently to our residents and communities.
You will be a highly motivated and ambitious individual with experience in leading the preparation of planning policy and an in-depth knowledge of the legislation and policy guidance
You will be a strong, open and transparent communicator, with excellent verbal and written skills. and be comfortable engaging with stakeholders, both within and outside our organisation.
