Required as soon as possible, we are looking to appoint motivated, highly effective and creative teachers with experience and/or interest in teaching pupils with autism and associated difficulties to join our positive, forward-thinking and dedicated team of staff. Thomas Bewick School is a specialist provision for autistic children and young people. We cater for children and young people aged 3 -19 years with a range of abilities and differences associated with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and all of our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Ofsted graded the school ‘Good’ in September 2023. We are proud to be recognised for the great work we do with the young autistic population of Newcastle Upon Tyne. All pupils have autism, significant learning difficulties and complex needs, and abilities range from Engagement Model to lower National Curriculum levels. You will therefore be willing and able to teach a pre-formal, semi-formal or formal curriculum to our wonderful pupils.
- Are you a creative class teacher who can inspire and motivate children, young people and colleagues alike?
- Are you committed to developing your potential as a specialist educator?
- Do you have consistently high expectations for all, regardless of need or ability?
If so, we would like to hear from you! In return we can offer you a kind, caring school with:
- Happy, enthusiastic children and supportive parents/carers
- Talented, resilient and supportive staff who place the child at the centre of all learning, and relentlessly strive for excellent progress and standards of achievement
- An ethos whereby adults learn alongside our pupils through a carefully planned programme of training and professional development opportunities
The school is arranged over three different sites: our Broadwood Site based in Denton Burn, and our Site 1 and Site 2, both based in West Denton. Our relevant, exciting and challenging curriculum is taught and supported by a team of caring, friendly and dedicated staff who are trained in a range of ASC specific approaches and strategies. All of our pupils have access to an autism specific environment with a range of specialist facilities and activities available to support different aspects of their learning and development.

We are striving to further build collaboration across the schools and grow as a Multi Academy Trust, whilst continuing to strengthen our relationships with schools outside the MAT for the benefit of our pupils.
The successful candidate will be deployed initially at Thomas Bewick School but will be expected to work at any Prosper Learning Trust site should the need arise.
The Trust is proud to say that we match the Real Living Wage and we also offer successful candidates:
- A friendly and supportive team of staff who are willing to share expertise and learn from one another
- Opportunities for career development and support with development through Trust wide CPD programmes
- Access to an Employee Assistance Programme and support from the Trust's Wellbeing Network Group
- Access to either Teacher's Pension or Local Government Pension Scheme
