Who we are looking for:
At Newcastle City Council we provide an independent service which involves working with parents, panel members, schools and the Council’s Admissions Team to ensure that admission appeals, and exclusion reviews are undertaken in a professional and inclusive manner and within the relevant legislative framework.
 
Following a restructure of the team, we are seeking to appoint a new School Appeals Team Lead on a permanent basis to join our existing team, based at the Civic Centre.
 
This newly created role will be accountable for leading the team of Appeals Clerks to ensure School Admission Appeals and Exclusion Appeals are administered in accordance with the legislation.

To be successful in the role:
  • You will be a highly motivated and committed manager, with experience of leading a team in a busy administrative/governance environment.
  • You will possess excellent communication, organisational and IT skills; and be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • You will be confident in dealing with difficult situations, emotive subjects and possess an innate ability to empathise.
  • You will have in depth knowledge, advice and understanding of the policies relating to school place admission and exclusion appeals.
