You will be responsible for driving any vehicle within the Council’s Waste Service and will act as an ambassador of South Tyneside Council taking a positive approach to customer care and promoting equality and diversity.  This post holds a specific requirement for driving HGV vehicles.  You will work as part of a team and be prepared to work flexibly when necessary.
 
You will be expected to undertake the following duties:
 
  • Drive and operate any vehicle and attached hoists/hi-abs as allocated in support of Waste and Environmental activities.
  • Take responsibility for the vehicle and any attached crew including responsibility for the health and safety of colleagues and the public.  This may include taking a senior role with operatives attached to a vehicle.
  • Drive refuse collection vehicles for the purposes of domestic, commercial, clinical, bulky, abandoned and farm waste.
  • Assist Waste and Environmental Operatives in their tasks and duties.
  • Complete all relevant paperwork associated with the post including accident reports, fuel records, health and safety issues, vehicle checks etc.  To report issues/problems regarding scheduled work e.g. Assisted Pull-Outs, delays etc.
  • Undertake appropriate daily vehicle checks ensuring any defects are reported.

  • Undertake minor routine maintenance of vehicle as required.
  • Assist in the completion of scheduled work by altering routes and working with other teams as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with generic and dynamic risk assessments for you and work colleagues.
