Our passionate and ambitious Public Health Directorate are looking for skilled candidates who are committed, focused and capable of leading a team to deliver projects of political and strategic importance effectively and at a pace necessary to meet population needs in the coming years.

Newcastle upon Tyne is a beautiful and historic city. Famous for its friendly residents and inclusive nightlife, it offers an excellent quality of life with extensive cultural, leisure and sporting opportunities. Geographically, it also offers superb access to coastline, countryside and urban greenspace. The city is the regional centre of the North East with a population who are ethnically diverse and includes a significant student population.

Our approach to improving outcomes and reducing inequalities is led by work aimed at tackling the wider determinants of health and working in collaboration with system partners to strengthen community resilience.

The City Council is dynamic and innovative with a strong organisational focus on addressing poverty, achieving Net Zero and improving outcomes for our residents through evidence-based action. Working relationships with partner organisations are well-established and the city has a strong track record of collaboration.

The successful candidate will have an important role as a system leader and will contribute to our achievement of greater cross-sectoral integration for health and social care through Collaborative Newcastle, an innovative partnership which aims to improve the health, wealth and wellbeing of residents. There are numerous opportunities to tackle the fundamentals of wellbeing and health in the city and to maximise the opportunities of our NIHR funded Health Determinants Research Collaboration.

The successful candidate will be a trained specialist on the GMC Register/GDC Specialist List or UK Public Health Register.

Interviews will take place November 28th 2024 at Newcastle Civic Centre.
