Newcastle City Council is looking to recruit qualified Social Workers into their Learning Disability and Autism Team. Adult’s Social Care.

We have 6 new posts open to Qualified Un-Progressed or Progressed Social Workers to contribute to case work and special projects within the service.
The posts are:
1 part-time 3-day fixed term post to February 2025
1 part-time 3-day permanent post
1 full-time 2-year fixed term post
3 full-time 1-year fixed term posts

You would receive a warm welcome if you joined the Learning Disability and Autism Team at Newcastle City Council. We are using the innovative 3 conversations model to enable our Social Workers to have open and interesting conversations with people and families who need our support and with our colleagues and partners to foster collaboration to make things happen, so that we can be useful for people and help them get on better with their lives.

The team is structured to maximize the support that we can offer to people, their families, carers and comprises of three sections;
- Intake which focuses on new referrals and short-term work including preventative and strengths-based work that promotes the independence of people at the point of referral;
- Intervention for those with more complex needs and more in-depth work to fulfil statutory obligations, often involving applications to the Court of Protection; and
- Review for annual reviews but also situations where unexpected changes are required to existing services.
There are dedicated managers attached to each section with support from Senior Practitioners and a wealth of knowledgeable and experienced Social Work colleagues.

We have exciting opportunities in each dedicated section of the team.

The part-time 3-day fixed term post to February 2025 would involve joining the Intake section to cover maternity leave.

The part-time permanent post is situated within the Intervention section.

The full-time 2-year fixed term post is also placed within the Intervention section and is to support colleagues in completing Court of Protection applications and to hold a small case load of complex work. In order to be successful in your application for this post you must have some knowledge and experience of completing Court of Protection applications, although further training and supervision will be provided from within the team and from our excellent colleagues in legal services.

The 3 full-time one-year posts are to join our Review Team, as part of the Independent Living Scheme reviews. This is a special project created to undertake dynamic reviews of existing packages of care provided to people living in our Independent Living Schemes. You would join an expanding team of multi-disciplined professionals who have already had great success in increasing independence and reducing restrictions for this group of people.

Across the posts we are looking for dynamic individuals who are committed to providing an excellent social work service and who bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill-base to the challenge of working with adults who have a learning disability and/or autism, their families and carers. You must be an enthusiastic team player who is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for adults.  Candidates will be required to have the determination, commitment and social work value base to create positive outcomes for adults in the City.
